GALLERY ONE, GALLERY TWO, THE NIGHT SCREEN & PROJECT SPACE
Opens Friday 20 July 6pm–8pm
Media Lab Melbourne
For 10 nights in July and at 30 sites, Gertrude St is illuminated by the visions of talented projections artists for the Gertrude St Projection Festival.
Buildings, laneways, footpaths and tree trunks will be lit up with site specific and curated projections on the theme Elements. Projection based workshops, music events and art tours connects and celebrates our diverse community in this free outdoor street gallery.
Throughout the festival, Media Lab Melbourne will be running its fourth ‘Sprint’—re-imagining the possibilities of projections and screens, & offering a workshop, networking and skill sharing out of SEVENTH gallery. The aim of the workshop is to explore alternate methods of projecting light and break out of the constraints that conventional screens and classic aspect ratios bind us. Unusual projection masks, pinhole cameras, shadow plays, projection mappings, alternative light displays—these are all within the scope of the event. The final day of the Sprint will involve a showcase of projects developed during the period. Applicants from diverse creative and technical backgrounds are welcome. If you are interested in being involved at any stage, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.medialabmelbourne.com.au.
