Low Relief brings together four artists whose practices blur distinctions between two-dimensional representation and the three-dimensional object. Drawing impetus from the continual advancement of technology and screen culture, these artists engage notions of representation and experience predicated upon the flat interface, however examining its potential for radical extension or collapse. Harnessing optical effects, flat surfaces shimmer with false depths, while symmetry and alignment serve to flatten the three dimensional object upon particular sight lines. Primary in their practices is a fascination with vantage points, undermining the possibility of singular certainty, offering instead a perception of depth or depthlessness that is continually shifting.
