Sol Fernandez and Richmond Girls Club (RGC) collaborate on ROYGBIV with the support of Yarra Youth and Drummond Street Services. RGC are a group of young female identifying people from the local high rise community. They gather fortnightly at the Richmond Youth Hub with the intention of making art, crafting, cooking and singing. Sol Fernandez is a South Asian multidisciplinary storyteller, maker and mother from South East Naarm. Her work explores the liminal spaces within her cultures, and the fluidity of age, relationships and sexuality. She resonates with young people and has a legacy of collaboration with her daughter Blu Fernandez Lennon, which has both solidified and loosened her practice. Building from this intergenerational space and underpinned by a practice of care, Sol has been facilitating workshops with Richmond Girls Club in which the intention has been to be present and respectful of our intuitions as people, creatives, collaborators and girls. ROYGBIV asks when making art, what is our connection to the idea of “empowerment”.

Sol Fernandez

Sol Fernandez is a multidisciplinary storyteller, maker and mother from South East Naarm. Her work explores the liminal spaces within her cultures, and the fluidity of age, relationships and sexuality. She resonates with young people who are making their own way in the world with a lot of heart, building things from the ground up.

Richmond Girls Club

The drum creates opportunities to amplify the views and experiences of and as a platform for different voices of young people. We are open to all but assertively engage and deliver programs for young people who are often more marginalised or who experience discrimination. We do so because we know that these social forces limit and reduce the opportunity for them to realise their hopes and aspirations.

Yarra Youth Services

Yarra Youth Services is for young people aged between 12 and 25 years who live, work, study or have a connection to Yarra. We welcome all young people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences including CALD, ATSI, LGBTIQ young people and young people living with disability.
