A Primitive Movie
A Primitive Movie is an installation (taking the form of a light box, overhead projection, video, cum and board) observing and reinterpreting axolotl iconography through the lens of cinema. The axolotl is a larval salamander endemic to the lakes of Mexico that has inspired a great deal of work centred on the theme of ‘crossing’. This project aims to explore these images through devices commonly associated with traditional moving image making, such as light, dead end careers and a play with time. However, following the theme and logic of ‘crossing’, this work concentrates on exploring film as an unbounded way of thought.
