Activities for Small Hours
Activities for Small Hours explores the relationship between the artist’s body and the gallery space. In this case the gallery is a re-constructed virtual environment into which the artist’s body is digitally ‘inserted’. It is rather within the circular space of a blue screen studio that Berndt’s body is captured and mapped by the camera. The sandwiching and layering of her body between fake and real environments turns her body into a digitally mediated object that the artist can collage and manipulate. Projected onto the window of Seventh Gallery and viewed from the street, the artist invites the public to observe her fictional interactions with the gallery space.
