Daniel is a new media artist. The focus of his work is about nature, time, technology and our connection to it.
It seeks to identify and reveal a connection between the apparent and the subliminal impulses that shape this world.
Dust Plate explores how ever-changing natural patterns formed by dust on the grooves of a vinyl record can be used to create a new musical composition. In this work the artist translates a snapshot of the location and size of the dust particles naturally formed on the ‘New Order – Blue Monday Original 12″, 1983’. The pattern is photographed and methodically mapped to midi notes in a music sequencer and combined with samples taken from the record. This process gives the original sound a new life.
