Tess Yolande Sokolowski
The body of work is inspired by artist Tess Yolande Sokolowski’s own experiences as a young woman as it addresses appearance, self-esteem, restrictions and assimilations. The work is an attempt at looking into the work of female artists who explore and develop ideas around a feminist ideology. The work is an on going performance, which may create confronting tension between exhibitionism and voyeurism and may be interpreted as an enactment of the physical vulnerability of women in a world where they are reduced to mere objects to be looked at. Ultimately it may also create a sense of tranquility, as there is no sound and the artist’s eyes remain closed therefore the connection between artist and viewer doesn’t exist.
