Lure seduces with a portal of lurid colour, sensual abstraction which morphs and transforms through gradual and subtle transitions. The mesmerised “eye-mind” attempts to grasp the fleeting detail before it is lured to the next phase, another futile temptation. In being diverted, it may be unaware of the bright light eclipsed by the occasionally almost imploding forms.
While the work alludes to Huxley’s aesthetics of psychedelia, it also finds a place in the context of the contemporary sublime. Light is both medium and metaphor, and the work refers to psychedelia as both a visual experience, as well as a culture of mind and perception.
