VOLUNTEER AT SEVENTH
SEVENTH values the substantial contribution volunteers make to the daily running of the space, ensuring exhibitions remain open to the public. We are always seeking new volunteers who are passionate about emerging art and want to gain hands on experience in the running of an artist run space, to join the SEVENTH team.
Volunteers commit to volunteering a minimum of 3 hours per fortnight and can assist with sitting the gallery during opening hours, helping on the bar or invigilating during openings and events, and assisting artists with the install/de-install of their shows.
Whether you are an artist, arts administrator, curator, or simply interested in the arts, volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience and meet other artists and professionals. Volunteers are encouraged to attend all SEVENTH openings where they are introduced to the exhibiting artists and the SEVENTH board. Long-term volunteers are also invited to request mentoring from our diverse and qualified board members.

SEVENTH is honoured to be a recipient organisation of this wonderful initiative by the City of Yarra: Room to Create.
Yarra City Council’s Room to Create Program aims to keep the arts in Yarra by supporting eligible artists and arts organisations and fostering more affordable and sustainable creative spaces.

In comparison to surrounding municipalities, Yarra has the highest percentage of residents who identify themselves as creative practitioners. Yarra continues to be an engine room for the arts, with iconic live music venues, over 60 galleries and artist run spaces, dozens of formal and informal rehearsal spaces, many peak arts organisations, radio stations, film production houses, recording studios and more. However, the pressure of increased land prices and the diminishing availability of affordable warehouse-style spaces has forced many creative people out of Yarra, particularly young and emerging artists.
The Room to Create Fund
The Room to Create Fund is a charitable fund account in partnership with the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. In 2013, Council committed $100,000 to establish the Room to Create Fund. The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation provided a further $100,000 to match Council’s commitment. Early in 2014 an additional donation of $30,000 was made by the Meydan Group.
Over time the Fund will grow and the interest will be offered as infrastructure grants to the creative sector.

The Circle is a new fundraising initiative that is designed to build the corpus of the Room to Create Fund whilst providing an immediate cash injection to three of Yarra’s beloved arts organisations.
